The second verb governs a single compound object marked once by 'et (H0853) and covering all six gentilic nouns joined by ve ("and"): ha.ke.na.'a.ni, ha.'e.mo.ri, ve.ha.chi.ti, ve.ha.pe.ri.zi, ha.chi.vi, ve.ha.y.vu.si. Each people-name carries the definite article, treating them as known, specific national groups rather than generic categories. The piel stem of ge.rash.Ti conveys a more forceful or thorough expulsion than a basic qal would, a nuance not distinguishable in translations that render it simply as "drive out" or "expel."

Differences between versions

The LXX renders the second verb as ἐκβαλεῖς ("you will drive out"), second person, where the Hebrew ge.rash.Ti is first person ("I will drive out"); the Vulgate's ejiciam ("I will drive out") matches the Hebrew's first-person form. The LXX's people-list also replaces ke.na.'a.Ni ("Canaanite", H3669A) with Γεργεσαῖον ("Girgashite"), a name absent from the Hebrew list here, while the Vulgate's Chananaeum corresponds directly to the Hebrew ha.ke.na.'a.Ni.
